From karate champion to Super Hero: “Cobra Kai” standout Xolo Maridueña plays his dream role in “Blue Beetle”

It’s a dream, surreal is really the only word I can use for it,” says Xolo Maridueña, who plays Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle in the all-new Super Hero movie from Warner Bros. Pictures, “Blue Beetle.”  

“For as long as I can remember, Jaime Reyes is the biggest Latin Super Hero in the DC Universe,” says the actor. “Growing up, my mom was a huge fan of comics and I think she passed down that liking to me, and it was always a dream to play this role and to get into this character.”

DC Superhero Film “Blue Beetle” Debuts Official Trailer

He’s a superhero, whether he likes it or not. Watch the official trailer for “Blue Beetle,” the latest superhero movie from DC and Warner Bros. Pictures. Xolo Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) plays the titular superhero. Exclusively in cinemas across the Philippines starting August 16.

DC Superhero Film "Blue Beetle" Reveals Teaser Poster

Fresh from CCXP 2022 in Brazil, check out the teaser poster for the upcoming DC superhero film “Blue Beetle” – in cinemas across the Philippines August 16, 2023.

The first Latinx-led superhero film from a major studio, “Blue Beetle” follows Jamie Reyes, a teenager who is gifted superhuman strength, speed, and armor when an alien scarab beetle attaches itself to him.

The film is directed by Angel Manuel Soto, written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.  “Cobra Kai” star Xolo Maridueña is set to play the titular superhero, while Susan Sarandon (“Feud”) is cast as the film’s main villain, Victoria Kord. Joining the cast are “Hocus Pocus 2” star Belissa Escodobo as Jamie’s sister Miagros Reyes, Brazilian star Bruna Marquezine as Jamie’s love interest Penny, George Lopez as Jamie’s uncle Rudy and Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.) as Carapax the Indestructible Man.

Rest In Peace Steve Ditko

The comics community is in mouring for the passing of one of the comic legend Steve Ditko who was found dead in his apartment last June 29, 2018. He is known to be the co-creator of iconic comic characters like Spider-Man and Doctor Strage. He also behind DC Characters like Creeper, Hawk and Dove, Question, Captain Atom, and Blue Beetle. 

Born November 2, 1927, he started his career in comics in 1953 with Atlas Comics (Predecessor of Marvel Comics) where he worked on Doctor Strange and The Amazing Spider-Man but left in 1966 for unspecified reasons.
