U.S.S. Enterprise Crew Divided in "Star Trek Beyond"

In Paramount Pictures' “Star Trek Beyond” a disaster strands the U.S.S. Enterprise crew on an unexplored alien planet, throwing crew members in different directions and forced to survive separately. Chris Pine Recalls Working with Anton Yelchin in "Star Trek Beyond"

Chris Pine reprises his role as James T. Kirk in Paramount Pictures' new sci-fi, action-adventure “Star Trek Beyond,” a character he originated in 2009's “Star Trek” and continued in 2013's ““Star Trek into Darkness” – both directed by J.J. Abrams.

One of the bigger plot points that dramatically changes the course of “Star Trek Beyond” is the destruction of the Starship Enterprise, which strands the crew on an unexplored alien planet.

“The stakes are as big as they get,” says Abrams, who's back as a producer. “After they see the Enterprise ripped to shreds and torn asunder, the crew is thrown all these different directions and forced to survive and reconnect with the rest of the crew. It’s wonderful because we get to see how well these separate pairs work together towards a common goal.”

"Kingsman" Villain Sofia Boutella Makes Her Mark in "Star Trek Beyond"

She surprised global audiences with a breakthrough performance the blade-runner villain in last year's hit spy film “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” That film led to her being cast as the title character opposite Tom Cruise in next year's reboot of “The Mummy.”

Now, French actress Sofia Boutella appears in Paramount Pictures' “Star Trek Beyond” as Jaylah, a strong willed, technologically adept alien who saves the life of Scotty (Simon Pegg) on the surface of the planet, Altamid.

“Jaylah has been alone on Altamid for some time” says Boutella. “She’s had to fend for herself for so long that when Scotty arrives, she sees the potential to make a friend. Even though she’s defensive and guarded, Jaylah and Scotty develop a sort of brother and sister dynamic that Simon and I have off-set.”
