Indie Komiks Manila, Comicxhub, Comic Odyssey, FlipGeeks will have a fund rasing campaign to with SKETCH FOR MANG TONY that will happen on May 5 at Comic Odyssey in Robinsons Galeria and Comicxhub office, 3rd floor, Bloomingdale Plaza, Shaw Bouleveard.

Show your support this FCBD and lets all help Mang Tony as our prayers for his recovery is also underway. 

Free Comic Book Day 2012!

This year, Free Comic Book Day is back this May 5, 2012 and the fun gets more exciting with another IKM project for Free Comic Book Day 2012 featuring the works of Komik artists and teasers for the upcoming Komikon. Comicxhub has joined to make another Indie komik compilation for FCBD 2012. Comic Odyssey is also getting prepared with a new relocated store. Thus this would make people lining up very early how they will make it as the first to be in the line. 

Excited what titles will I get this FCBD!  Celebrate FREE COMIC BOOK DAY with us this Saturday, May 5, 2012 at our Robinsons Galleria branch. The fun begins at 10:30 am.

KOMIKON 2012: Independent Komiks Tiangge Participants!

Summer Komikon 2012 is just around the corner as May comes in and makes you realize that time surely flies so fast! And it means another year of Komiks and the most exciting is the Independent Komiks Tiangge that will feature independent comic creators. Unfortunately, I failed to reach the registration, but it was an opportunity for me to not to pressure myself and enjoy Komikon. Well there has been an increase of new indie komiks this year as the number of the members of Indie Komiks Manila also increased. Here are the list of the Komik creators and the comic companies they represent.

Summer KOMIKON 2012!

This year Summer Komikon 2012 gets hotter just like the weather as it will be filled with komiks, komiks and many other things still related to komiks! The event has been the most awaited event of the season. It was so in demand that the Independent Komiks slots were filled in less than a day! I actually failed to get a slot, but this means I have more time to go around the place and enjoy the komikon just like I did before. So Mark your Calendars now for May 26 at the Bayanihan Center in Pasig City from 10 am to 7 pm!


Specials for this years Komikon are Elemer Damaso, Freely Abrigo and Heubert Khan Michael. There will be also the Independent Komiks Tiangge and a 24 Hour Comic Creation Contest. Get to meet your favorite comic book artists and also their latest work hot and fresh and of course have them signed!

I Will If You Will Campaign for Earth Hour

Since we do support Earth Hour for its contribution in saving electricity that will in turn conserve a lot of natural resources that are quickly vanishing even up to this date, the campaign of switching off lights at home and establishments has become a very successful one especially here in the Philippines. But the war is still not yet over as many are still rely on these resources for energy and livelihood.

Now the World Wildlife Fund Philippines (WWF Philippines) made this campaign of "I WILL IF YOU WILL" to challenge ourselves in being better people that have do care for our mother earth, as earth hour goes beyong the hour of switching off into a long term and achievable task which will benefit nature.

Alodia's Birthday Bash DOTA Tournament

The Cosplay Godess Alodia Gosiengfiao is celebrating her birthday and she will celebrate it with  her loyal fans and friends this March 31 at the SM City North EDSA Annex Cyberzone.

There will be a lot of competition that will also happen on that day. Like the DOTA 1 Tournament with Mineski-Dota! Pre-Qualifiers at Mineski Infinity TAFT on March 25! Top 4 teams will compete at the finals at Alodia's Birthday Bash on March 31! (No Entrance Fee) Each team will consist of 5 members.

Prizes for DoTA Finals on March 31: Champion wins P7500 + Razer gaming goodies, 2nd Place wins P5000 + Razer gaming goodies, 3rd Place P3000 + Razer gaming goodies!

The tournament will be open to the following participants:

• 6 Class S teams from GMPGL (based on overall points)

• 1 Class A team from GMPGL (champion team on 4-3)

• 1 Malaysian Guest Team Orange E-sports

Krisis Komix Celebrates Eath Hour!

It Earth Hour once again and this also means the 3rd anniversary of Krisis Komix! And this time we hope to be more involved in helping spread the word of saving mother earth by conserving energy in our home and businesses. 

With just an hour of switching off lights we can save a lot of energy that consume oil and other natural resources that can never be replenished ever again. 

And let's all have fun and enjoy performances and activities during this worldwide event. The Philippines has been one of the  biggest participants for Earth Hour with more cities participating plus business centers and establishments.

To all Cebuanos and Davaeños! WWF will also hold official Earth Hour switch-off ceremonies in your cities! See you at the Plaza Independencia (Cebu) or at SM City Davao on March 31!

BLTX Today Until Tomorrow!

Better Living Through Xeroxography or BLTX is a small-press expo now on its second incarnation, the first one a success by indie standards: 30 small press publishers and 200 buyers on a rainy December day in 2010.

The goal of BLTX is simple. Bring together independent self-publishers from Metro Manila (hopefully from elsewhere, too), in a one-night event that will allow them to sell their wares: books, yes, but also zines and other printed materials like shirts, postcards, posters, and this year, CDs from musicians more indie than indie. It’s about selling, but also about meeting like-minded individuals who believe in literature and creative work that might not ever get into the mainstream of commercial bookstores and galleries, but for one night is the star of the show.

You can also just imagine BLTX to be the coolest meet-and-greet between writers and readers, one that involves beer, some music, and plenty of creativity you rarely see. 

This year though BLTX will also be space for productive discussions on the making | marketing | selling of the self-published book, where practical aspects of actual independent book production will be shared by those who have survived it with sanity intact. BLTX Talks will happen the day after the BLTX small-press expo, a full six hours of four different panels that will answer central questions about PRINT PUBLISHING, ONLINE / WEB PUBLISHING, RETAIL & DISTRIBUTION, and COMMUNITY. All necessarily in light of the industry of independent self-publishing, and all against the traditional forms of cultural production as we know it in these shores.

This year BLTX will happen at Ilyong's, Kalantiaw, Project Four, Cubao from 8:00pm until Tomorrow at 8:00pm.

Zsazsa Zaturnnah is Back This 2012!

Everybody's favorite Pinoy superheroine is back at book stores after some years of anticipation from fans and the industry alike. Zsazsa Zaturnnah sa Kalakhang Maynila (Part 1 of 3) became available just this January 25 ( and earlier in some bookstores, which fans shared). And has been well received by its readers. It was expected to debut this last November Komikon but was just pushed back a little further but people never got tired of waiting. In this new saga of Ada and her alter ego Zaturnah, she and Dodong now living in the busy city, a break away from the rural life they had after fighting giant frogs, zombies and alien amazonas.  In this chapter in their lives, they try to adjust to urban living and getting along with people around them.

And indeed from the cover it already gets you attention which I think is inspired with classic comic layouts and poses and given the 'touch' of terms making it an eye-catcher. Then for its contents, it still retains its very dramatic yet compelling art and story which readers admire. And it still contains gay lingo (beki language) that seems like reading a bilingual book yet one can still get what it means and its humor essence. 

With this first part making us excited forAda/Zaturnnah's return but also leaves a short cliffhanger to be excited for the second part. It has been so far fun with new characters also unique and interesting. A great job by Carlo Vergara for sharing another Zaturnnah story which is also celebrating almost a decade and made its as far as CCP to Silver screens. 

We are now waiting for any announcement of when the second book will be available.
