Free Comic Book Day 2018 Featuring iKwento For Pinoy Komik Fans!

This year of Free Comic Book Day (FCBD), I was able to attend because schedule now permitted me to experience this again. And it has become a tradition to start my haul with Filbar's in Megamall which has made it a monumental day for the store as comics fans are increasing every year.

Filbar's has a great system in organizing the long line of fans waiting to get their favorite comic books. And like we have featured back then, their Flashpass system still works to avoid over-saturation of people waiting for to get inside the store. Filbar's also provide space for comic artists who can do commission work and sometimes has a feature artists on board. This year they had Pugad Baboy creator Pol Medina who just launched his 30th anniversary of the Pugad Baboy Series.

We all know that Free Comic Book Day (FBCD) would be a little chaotic and frustrating with the long lines just to get a free copy. But should not always be the case because Filbar's created a new way that is both easy and practical. They call it the Filbar’s Flashpass.

The Filbar’s Flashpass is a virtual queuing system that allows our customers to avoid waiting in long lines for their Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) freebies.

This Free Comic Book Day (May 5, 2012), aside from getting free comics is also a time for comic book lovers and supporters to help one Filipino comic legend, Tony De Zuniga, who worked on Jonah Hex is now in need of support in his hospital expenses. Indie Komiks Manila, Comicxhub, Comic Odyssey, FlipGeeks will have a fund rasing campaign to with SKETCH FOR MANG TONY that will happen on May 5 at Comic Odyssey in Robinsons Galeria and Comicxhub office, 3rd floor, Bloomingdale Plaza, Shaw Bouleveard.

Show your support this FCBD and lets all help Mang Tony as our prayers for his recovery is also underway. 

Free Comic Book Day 2012!

This year, Free Comic Book Day is back this May 5, 2012 and the fun gets more exciting with another IKM project for Free Comic Book Day 2012 featuring the works of Komik artists and teasers for the upcoming Komikon. Comicxhub has joined to make another Indie komik compilation for FCBD 2012. Comic Odyssey is also getting prepared with a new relocated store. Thus this would make people lining up very early how they will make it as the first to be in the line. 

Excited what titles will I get this FCBD!  Celebrate FREE COMIC BOOK DAY with us this Saturday, May 5, 2012 at our Robinsons Galleria branch. The fun begins at 10:30 am.

Free Comic Day with National Bookstore this May 2011!

If you missed Free Comic Book Day last May 7, 2011 at Bestsellers Robinsons Galleria, don't fret there is another Free Comic Book Day brought to you by National Bookstore. And there is also a lot of bonuses when you attend the event as it also have the V for Vendetta co-creator David Lloyd to sign your comics! FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!

Its my first Free Comic Book Day ever. I missed last year so I made a promise to make it this year. I thought I will be loner there but alas! There were some blogger friends like Aldrin, Vince and Mark, who were more hardcore comic book fans than me. Free Comic Book Day originally started in the US as a way to get American kids to appreciate comic books rather than spending a lot of time with video games. It was also to help the revival of comic industry as it declined when the other form of media like the television and the internet came into the scene.

For this day, special comics from different publishing groups, individual and group artists are given out without any purchase. However, there would be some limitations upon the number of comics that one can avail to ensure many can still receive a copy. In the Philippines, FCBD has been celebrated for some years and it was successful. Participating branches like Comic Odyssey are flocked by enthusiast and comic geeks for this opportunity.

As a first timer for this kind of event, it was very fun to know that you will be getting a very good comic for free. I also appreciate how other local comic artists would also give out some of their works for free like Gerry Alanguilan and Leinil Yu to name a few. I just had 3 comics, Iron Man Nova, War of the Supermen, and  Iron Man -Thor comic. Some may actually got more but its OK, there would be next year and also as this event would be a regular thing in the Philippines, there will be another chance to enjoy a day of free comics.
