San Diego Comic Con!
Its that time of the year again that aside from Christmas and Thanksgiving, that many are anticipating to happen. Even here in the Philippines, we wish to be there. I really hope that someday, I would go there to experience it. I believe that this comicon paved way for the comicon fever here in the Philippines. And since there are also a lot of comic geeks here, its no wonder that these kinds of conventions is a big hit for us Pinoys.
Things to look forward to are the toys, teasers from series, new series, and of course comics. This is also a venue for the biggest cosplay event in the States. Alodia & Ashley Gosiengfiao are at the comicon too, so we hope that they would be captured during the con. For now, stay tuned for updates regarding SDCC.
SDCC runs from July 22 to 25!

DC gears for 75th anniversary, Protecting and entertaining the Universe
We have known DC comics as the makers of classics like superman, batman and many other superheroes who belonged to the Justice League. It has been 75 years since that first comic book was released andmade the legacy. Now in line with this celebration, DC comics have revealved their activities at a Press launch at the Podium.
For this year, June will be the celebrating month for the DC anniversary as it is the major presentor of the Toy Convention 2010 that will be held at SM Megamall. The TOYCON will also feature programs and activities like cosplay and toy auctions that are DC Comic characters. The TOYCON also aims of gathering the most number of DC Comic Characters in Cosplay. There is also a event wherein they will setup a challenging trail (wall climbing, ropes and other things) set up inside the mall for those thrillseekers who has superhero guts.
DC mechandise will also be part of the celebration with apparel and school supplies with DC chaacters. Penshoppe also has its own line of DC comic fever with desgner shirts. Of course, television shows like Batman Brave and te Bold, Justice League, Smallville still dominates the air which actually paved the way for the celebration.
FInally, on 2011, many will be anticipating the premiere of the GREEN LANTERN staring Ryan Rennolds in theaters. But within this year we will also get excited for the filmadaptation of Jonah Hex, a DC comic which was drawn by a Fiilipino, Tony DeZuniga . So this shows that DC is also very greatful for patronizing the characters and their merchandise. As it still expands its universe, there will be more things in the future we will look foward to as DC comics never stops in entertaining and saving the universe.

NO KAISHO! Cosplayers refuge to Mall of Asia.
Its was really unfortunate that the GO KAISHO event was canceled on the last minute, specifically the night before it. This actually caused many cosplayers and anime otakus to act quickly. Some made a suggestion that the cosplay event would be done at the Mall of Asia. MoA did not have actually a event that day, but will act as a ground for the prepared cosplayers to at do is at least is to do cosplay or something like a parade.
People in the mall actually wondered what was going on either if there was a cosplay event. They began to stay beside the skating rink in the second floor beside Blue Magic. However since the number of cosplayers are actually taking the entire hallway it may have alerted the stores which mall security responded by asking the cosplayers to leave the area. We are directed to go to the music hall which we did but find it crowded due to the inflated playground and there were also a lot of people there. For this some decided to either go back to the same spot or eat lunch first.
For those who came back at the side of the skating rink, this again alerted the mall security and permanently dispersing us from that area. I was meters away so I won't add up to the crowded cosplayers there. But, I just find it rude that we were led out of the mall just being there. There was no riot or damage of property there, its more like a silent protest. However, we just complied to what they have asked us to do and went out of the main mall and went to the area near the music hall. Some went to eat at the stores as many of us are waiting for the sun to set as we would now go to the Sea side.
While waiting for that time, of course cosplayers would take some time to pose and even flashing some GO KAISHO tickets with a dissatisfied faces. Some actually burned a part f their ticket as protest. I know that seems wrong but I cant blame them if the event was not properly postponed at a critical hour. Many were the uninformed about that and as they become part of the "KunwareCon", they said they will not attend GO KAISHO anymore.
As the sun sets, the cosplayers are now at the seaside area, taking time to enjoy the moment and making acquiantances with other cosplay groups and the endless pictures to show their costumes that some prepared for weeks or even a month. Since it was a saturday MoA have its regular fireworks display at night. As the show started, some of the cosplayers started shouting "NO KAISHO!". This actually got the attention of a security guard and stopped the shouting crowd. He maybe just doing his job, but I hope he knows about the real story behind it. So far, it was really a fun day to negate the dismayed feeling about the GO KAISHO incident. There has been a fan page fro GO KAISHO HATE PAGE which is still getting rants from the cosplay groups and fans. The "KunwareCon" was a success and many hopes to have another one next year. Its a convention without an official venue, no official sponsors and maybe another encounter with the mall security.
GO KAISHO said in its statement that it will push through in June, yet many have said to boycott the event. Also no other follow up statements or press release has been given on the website. So there are still questions and issues unresolved. Like what I have said in my last post about this, KAISHO, as one of the said oldest otaku groups should work double time in clearing their name and the reputation of the organization. This should have been their first, better don't screw it.
look ma, no kaisho on TV!
For this, yes many are dismayed. No other news was heard since then. Its actually post election now and COMELEC has proven themselves that automation did push trough despite all the negativism and skepticism. But there was still no other news that the cosplay and online community know aside from the fact that it was postponed. For this...

GO KAISHO IS AN EPIC FAIL!
Well it was really disappointing since they made the postponement a day before the event in which is very rare for anime conventions. We know that there would be a lot of attendees who have prepared as well as the exhibitors. So far I have read their statement and maybe I can still give them a chance. But there were a lot of incidents of misinformation that would lead to a lot of speculations. Yes, anime events are very hard to organize but to postpone an event not because of weather, war, or martial law makes us think that there is some mismanagement. If they want to salvage the integrity of the event they must do the extra mile now. Also postponement will also be a hassle since most of the attendees will have school soon. I am also got getting the information i need from their website. This is indeed a challenge, so its up to them to make that impression since this will be the first.
here is the GO KAISHO event statement.
*******
To those who are supporting KAISHO and will continue to support us,
We officially and regretfully want to tell to everybody that the event entitled GO KAISHO which should be held on 08 May 2010 at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City will be POSTPONED from the mentioned date to June 2010.
The GO KAISHO Events Team never expect for some serious thing to happen within our way to our first big event that should gave our organization the recognition of being one of the oldest otaku organizations in the country. We saw and found many negative, derogatory and offensive statements regarding the event’s condition. Some of our team even found statements saying that our event is completely canceled making this a bad impression for our event and our team as well.
Please be clearly reminded that GO KAISHO is not canceled but rather it will be moved on a new date and possibly a new and more accessible venue. Please refrain from rumors and false statements regarding this event and please refrain from spreading those words.
GO KAISHO is an event with over 6 months in the making and serious planning for this even took 2 months alone. The events team is composed of young and active individuals who are willing to become a part in changing the landscape of otaku conventions. Our team is small enough that we are outnumbered by other event groups but passion to have a new breed of event make us still alive as a family.
We know that reading and learning this statement from us might gain sufficient disappointment which will be enough to have us our own hate page on Facebook. We, on our part, feel very sorry and disappointed due to the fact that we are also excited on this event we have made.
The selling of tickets is one idea we have decided to lessen the hassle of one possible attendee from falling in long lines to buy one ticket. The ticketing area is located on the Exhibition Hall’s entrance and not located near the building entrance where the Exhibition Hall is a part of the building and not the building itself. The lobby between two entrances were not paid and not part of the leasing package.
The events team is currently working on the five possible and merely more accessible venues. It’s the discretion of our team with regards to choosing the right venue for this event.
We are dearly expressing our sincerest apologies for everyone who are deeply affected with situation. Our team leader has encountered enough hardship to make the idea of this event that even his health has already affected even days before the supposedly date of this event.
We, the GO KAISHO Events Team, is open for your support and if you still believe on our organization and our event. We are not affected by rumors telling that our event is a total scam. Please let us have a chance to clean our names and make something up for everyone. Please do express your undying support for our team and our event if it is not asking too much. Your moral support will be a great help to raise up our spirits and make us stronger again despite the agony we have earned. Thank you very much for your kindness, consideration and understanding.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!
Its my first Free Comic Book Day ever. I missed last year so I made a promise to make it this year. I thought I will be loner there but alas! There were some blogger friends like Aldrin, Vince and Mark, who were more hardcore comic book fans than me. Free Comic Book Day originally started in the US as a way to get American kids to appreciate comic books rather than spending a lot of time with video games. It was also to help the revival of comic industry as it declined when the other form of media like the television and the internet came into the scene.
For this day, special comics from different publishing groups, individual and group artists are given out without any purchase. However, there would be some limitations upon the number of comics that one can avail to ensure many can still receive a copy. In the Philippines, FCBD has been celebrated for some years and it was successful. Participating branches like Comic Odyssey are flocked by enthusiast and comic geeks for this opportunity.
Jejemons spottted on FCBD!
As a first timer for this kind of event, it was very fun to know that you will be getting a very good comic for free. I also appreciate how other local comic artists would also give out some of their works for free like Gerry Alanguilan and Leinil Yu to name a few. I just had 3 comics, Iron Man Nova, War of the Supermen, and Iron Man -Thor comic. Some may actually got more but its OK, there would be next year and also as this event would be a regular thing in the Philippines, there will be another chance to enjoy a day of free comics.

Komikon Summer de Avance 2010!
Election year, but still another year for a new advance in the Pinoy komiks industry. Komikon Summer de Avance 2010 held in the UP Bahay ng Alumni last Apil 17 gave another treat for all comic lovers, enthusiasts and all in between to meet and greet comic creators, producers, independent comic strip makers, and other comic celebrities. Amidst the high temperature outside the venue, it does not spoil the fun of all who attended to enjoy the event.
Featured artist is a recipient of an Eisner award/nominee , Rod Espinosa. And there were a lot of new books up for sale. Spotted there were the SKP (Samahan Kartunista ng Pilipinas) artist, comic compilations by Vibal and Anvil publishing. Also there were a lot of indie komiks that are increasing in numbers through the years (I hope to one of them by this year too). There were a lot of Games and prizes to those who attended.
Now who says the komiks industry is dying?
I believe that It is striving to stay, but not dead, and there are still a lot of opportunities given they are given equally. Pinoys will and always love komiks. Its has been a staple in the past. And today, komiks does evolve with the changes in society and technology. Probably if the generation today will get to know more about this, there could be a chance to bring the new age of komiks in the lives of Pinoys.
Komikon Summer de avance is just the first major event of Komikon this year. And like last year, there will be another komikon that will be held in November 2010. But also don't fogrt there will be also other events like the metro comicon and toycon this year. So election aside, these are he reasons why we should be most excited about. And hopefully for the new administration, it will support this industry that we have loved.
