KOMIKON Is Just a Few Days Away!

It's going to be a cool and refreshing summer with Summer

Komikon 2011, a spin-off of the annual Philippine Komiks Convention!

For its third consecutive year, this local gathering of Filipino comics creators and

enthusiasts will be held on April 16, 2011 from 10am to 7pm at an all-new venue: the

Bayanihan Center along Pioneer St., Pasig City.

This year's theme is "Bayanihan: Komiks Moving Onwards" and the main highlights of the

event include:

• the opening of the nominations for the 3rd Komikon Awards for Komikon 2011;
• exhibit and guest spotlight on women cartoonists;
• release of the first Summer Komikon Tabloid;
• screening of Animahenasyon 2007 and Animahenasyon 2008 winning entries;
• book launches of new comics titles (28 titles from the Indie Komiks Tiange);
• various comics-themed competitions;
• plus: surprise guests, contests and activities.

All of these for only a Php 100 entrance fee. What's more, the first 200 ticket buyers (presold

at Comic Odyssey and during the event) will get a free Komikon Canvass Bag to

put all your comics and merchandise goodies. Hold on to your tickets for a chance to

win prizes at the Komikon Raffle throughout the day.

innovations to the series in the most comprehensive racing

experience ever.

The Fight – Step into the dark and gritty underground of bare

knuckle brawling in The Fight. It takes players deep into the world

of no-holds-barred fighting, challenging them to face off against a

formidable lineup of rough opponents as they clash their way to the

top of the underground fighting circuit.

5. There will be two (2) stages of the game:

a. Elimination Round (April 8, Friday, 1:00pm-6:00pm)

b. Championship Round (April 9, Saturday, 1:00pm-6:00pm)

o Semi-final Round (1:00pm-3:00pm)

o Final Round (3:00pm-6:00pm)

6. Game Mechanics:

a. All players will have to play all the three (3) games.

b. There will be two (2) players per set. Winner per game will get one

(1) point for his score. Player with a total score of two (2) points

wins the set.

c. Knock-out system will be used in the Elimination and Semi-final

Rounds. Winners in the Elimination Round will move on to the Semi-final

Round. Winners in the Semi-final Round will play in the Final Round.

d. Round Robin will be used in the Final Round.

e. Following are the time limits for each game:

NBA 2K11

- one (1) quarter will be played in the Elimination Round

- two (2) quarters will be played in the Semi-final Round

- four (4) quarters will be played in the Final Round

Gran Turismo 5 – three (3) minutes

The Fight Lights Out – three (3) minutes

f. Scores of players in each game will be written down in a tally

sheet.

g. Player will have to affix his/her signature on the tally sheet to

confirm his/her score after which the event game coordinator

assisting the player will likewise affix his/her signature.

h. A player can only participate once.

i. There will be a total of sixteen (16) players only in the Elimination Round

due to time period limited to 1:00pm to 6:00pm.

j. The eight (8) winners in the Elimination Round will play in the

Semi-final Round.

k. The four (4) winners in the Semi-final Round will play in the Final

Round.

l. In the Final Round the player with highest score will be declared

Champion. Second highest scoring player wins First Runner-up. Third

highest scoring player wins Second Runner-up. In case of ties in the

Final Round, a double tie for a place will be settled with a knock-out

round with the winner winning the contested place and the loser winning

the next place. A Triple tie will be settled with a round robin with the

highest scoring player winning the contested place and the other players

getting the next places accordingly based on their scores.

A DTI Representative will be present to witness the proceedings.

7. Following are the prizes to be given away:

Champion – One (1) Sony Play Station 3 and one (1) Sony Move

Package (1 Move controller, 1 PS eye and software)

First Runner-up – One (1) Sony PSP

Second Runner-up – One (1) Move controller

Prizes can be claimed instantly at the venue. In case winners can not

claim their prizes on that day then they can claim their prize from Ms.

Bernadette Carpio at the Marketing Department, Admin Office, Ground

Floor, SM Megamall, EDSA Ave., Mandaluyong City between 11:00am

to 6:00pm, Mondays to Fridays within sixty (60) days from April 9,

2011.

8. The 20% tax on prizes exceeding Php.10,000.00 will be shouldered by SM

Cyberzone.

9. Prizes are transferrable but not convertible to cash.

10. The Promo Organizer’s decision is final with the concurrence of DTI.

11. Employees of SM, its affiliates, ad agencies, mall tenants and their

relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity are

Komikon 2011 Summer Bayanihan: Komiks Moving Onwards

Komikon season this 2011 starts big as the summer de avance convention that is always held at the UP Bahay ng Alumni. But this year, they will actually have this event at the bayanihan center in Pasig City (near ortigas and pioneer districts). Moving to a different venue would be really new and promises to have the same success of last years komikon held at Star Mall.

This year, it will highlight the women comic makers and also the opening for nominations for the komikon award that will be held in the main komikon in the last half of the year.

Hopefully I will also be part of the indie tiange for the launch the second krisis komix compilation KRISIS KOMIX WORLD KRISIS, featuring two other works, JOHNNY ASTIG and ANG BAGONG KIDLAT. 

This will all happen on April 16, 2011 from 10 am to 7pm.

Entrance is Php 100.

Goodbye and Thank You Very Much Mang Pablo Gomez!

I was deeply saddened with the news that Mang Pablo Gomez, the known story maker for komiks in its golden age and years after just died recently December 26. I was able to meet him in person last year when he gave his writing workshop (which is actually his last). I learned a lot from that experience though his ideas would not be appreciated by new writers. I was given a script of Mga Angel na Walang Langit (Angels without Heaven) which I still keep as an inspiration in writing. Now that I am also part of the komiks industry, I was looking forward in meeting Mang Pablo again to show my works and also seek consultation from him about stories from the past which is definitely rich in meaning and values. 

I knew that he would be at his twilight, since he is at the fragile age of 81, plus the fact that he still smokes. He is a very patient and silent person. He does not have a family of his own. And what he only have is his collection of komiks, magazines and other memorabilia that he shared to us during the workshop. He lives so simply and says that in writing he still uses the typewriter.

His works are still aired in TV like Juanita Banana, and other shows like Kampanerang Kuba, Petrang Kabayo and many more. He also shared to us about Carlo Caparas which he said was ungrateful after getting the fame and fortune. Though a newbie in the komik world, I also share the same sentiment about this.

 I also gave a sample of my writing works to Mang Pablo, which he said was good and just needed a few more polishes. I pledged to also do better and present to him soon a finished work., I don't  know but getting comments from a master whether its good or bad felt like music to my ears.  Unfortunately his came came. I'm still shocked but now writing this blog post as the final tribute and also to share my experience with the legend in the industry. Was it coincidence that Petrang Kabayo was made into a movie again and Juanita Banana a afternoon series just this year? It was a very greaceful exit for Mang Pablo and hope that his legacy lives on, and I promise to live that way.

Thank You Mang Pablo...

KRISIS LEVEL: activate!

I know that the blog is a little dormant these past few weeks and I do apologize for the late post and the updates that are not yet posted here in the blog but be assured that during this weekend I'll be updating all of them as a big thank you for the support for Krisis Komiks especially for those who bought the first issue of IDENTITY KRISIS. I'm actually working on the second issue now, so keep posted. Recommend the blog to your friends and relatives and together lets enjoy life as we go through our undying childhood inside and out.
